What’s cheesy and you’ll need to line up to taste it?

Great news cheese lovers, world famous Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts is coming to Pacific Fair!

The combination of a crunchy, shortcrust base, a creamy three-cheese filling, with a deliciousaroma has captured the hearts and tastebuds of countless Aussies and, in mid-July, we get to experience the magic for ourselves.

The Pacific Fair store will also offer their new chocolate tart made with a super secret recipe featuring creamy chocolate goodness encased in the perfectly sweet and savoury house-made pastry and with crushed almonds on top.

The Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart kiosks boast a compact, luxury aesthetic, featuring marble bench top displays and low-slung designer lighting. Perfectly matched to the chic aesthetic of Pacific Fair.

Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart first opened in Australia in 2016 to nationwide excitement, and fans queued up to get their cheese tart fix at each of the store openings.

Five stores have launched in Australia in the past four months proving the popularity of the humble cheesy treat.

Inspired by the distinct cheesy taste of Hokkaido dairy, and using a traditional recipe from Japan’s dairy heartland, it is not surprising that the famed ‘Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart’ has been a huge hit throughout Asia having successfully launched in Shanghai, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and Malaysia.

After tireless taste testing using local ingredients, the Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart has succeeded in recreating a Hokkaido cheese flavour perfectly.

Get ‘em while they’re hot.

White Gold Creamery

It’s common knowledge that cheese is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Smooth and creamy or sharp and crumbly, there isn’t a cheese in the world that doesn’t deserve love and adoration.

Some cheese though is not created equally but it is created right here on the Gold Coast by Bronwyn and Michael Lind at Biggera Waters’ White Gold Creamery.

The Creamery came about when the couple, both Analytical Scientists, moved to Beechmont from Redcliffe. Driving through the mountain one weekend, they came across a sixth generation dairy farmer and asked if he could show their children how to milk a cow. After hearing his story, they decided to support the local dairy industry and thus, the cheeses dreams are made of were born.

After experimenting in their kitchen for several years, as only scientists can, the couple had perfected their recipes and opened White Gold Creamery just two years ago.

Today, they have many varieties of beautifully handcrafted cheeses including the ‘Duck Creek’ a semi-soft cheese spiced with cumin and an extremely popular cows milk Halloumi. The ‘Lost World Valley’ is a cloth-bound aged cheddar named for the region White Gold Creamery’s milk suppliers reside in and is as perfectly stunning as you’d imagine.

There’s also cultured butter, buttermilk and yoghurt if you want to fully embrace the decadent dairy.

White Gold Creamery’s intention is for the Gold Coast to become known for our local produce and in turn support the farmers and growers. They are passionate about only using ingredients sourced locally and encourage the rest of us to do the same.

Find their next-level products in the showroom and at the Helensvale and Bundall Farmers Markets.

SHOWROOM HOURS: 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

LOCATION: 6/645 Pine Ridge Road, Biggera Waters.

Eddie’s Grub House

uxtaposed against the sparkling Coolangatta sea is the dark and grungy good-time den that is Eddie’s Grub House.

It’s a New Orleans-style dive bar and rock n roll personified with a dartboard in the corner and chalkboard pillars sporting cheeky messages and tiny works of art. Framed photos of Elvis and the like adorn the back wall while another is stacked high with a collection of spirits the King himself would be proud of.

Put simply Eddie’s Grub House is all the good things you won’t find anywhere else on the Gold Coast and if that’s not enough to persuade you, their new menu definitely will.

Eddie’s war cry reads Whiskey, beer and fried chicken. All Marinated in Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll” and while this is true, burgers and hot dogs are the stars of the latest show.

The Menage Abbatoir consists of an all beef patty, two southern fried chicken tenders, bacon, cheese, an onion ring filled with red cheddar, Coopers Ale BBQ sauce and special sauce – it’s a doozey, good luck. Not quite that brave? The Philly Cheeseburger also packs an all beef patty simply plus cheese, sautéed mushrooms, onions and peppers. The Sloppy Joe Cocker is a beef party, chilli con carne, sour cream and shallots. Prepare to get saucy.

Onto to the hot dogs. They’re all made with Eddie’s signature jalapeno, course ground dogs rammed into a milk bun and served with fries of course. The O.G is literally that – a timeless hot dog classic filled with ketchup, mustard and red cheddar cheese. The Philly Cheese Dog boasts matching ingredients to the burger of the same name but dog-style.

If all that’s not enough to render you useless for the rest of the day add on some Texas Chilli Cheese Fries – they’re coated with Eddie’s fire dust, bacon and scallions and smothered in hot cheese sauce.

Forgive us for we have sinned.

HOURS: Tuesday to Thursday 12pm to 10.30pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm to 12am and Sunday 12pm to 10pm.

LOCATION: 171 Griffith Street, Coolangatta.

3 new finger lickin’ reasons to visit Brooklyn Depot Kitchen & Brew

After eating their way through the US on a taste-testing mission, the team at newly renamed Brooklyn Depot Kitchen & Brew brought home 15 of the most authentic dishes they found for your finger lickin’ pleasure.

While there are obviously 15, here are the top three reasons to make a date with the Brooklyn boys stat.

1. The Lobster Mac & Cheese
It’s out of this world. As if Mac & Cheese wasn’t already the best thing that ever happened, the addition of lobster tips it over the edge. Basically it’s fresh lobster meat in a three cheese sauce baked ‘au gratin’ with a gremolata breadcrumb topping. Yes. It. Is.

2. The Cheeseburger Empanadas
These may just blow your mind – housemade empanadas with grass fed beef, American cheese, pickles, onion and served with Depot special sauce – they taste better than a cheeseburger but look more like a curry puff. Thank you America.

3. Chicken n’ Waffles
Not just any chicken n’ waffles though, sweet red velvet ‘bubble style’ waffles topped with crispy southern fried chicken pieces, served with maple cream syrup and flavoured butter. Soul food done the Brooklyn way and oh so Instagrammable.

There’s plenty more where they came from too y’all so a couple of visits a week for the next month should do it. The good old US of A comes through for us again, cheers legends.

Inside tip: the Yo’ Mama milkshake will make you very happy.
